Metallic Epoxy Flooring Process
Note: The steps may vary based on your needs.
Step 1 - Testing The Floor
Complete Concrete Coatings will employ different techniques to test the concrete floor and ensure that it is ideal for an metallic epoxy coating. Testing methods vary from one house to another. For example, if the house is newly built, we will ensure that the concrete floor is at least 2 months old before beginning the epoxy flooring process. In the case of old houses, we may test for a concrete sealer or other types of coatings. Otherwise, our epoxy will have a hard time adhering to your concrete.
Step 2 - Cleaning And Priming
Before adding the epoxy, Complete Concrete Coatings will assess and address any repairs needed. We remove any paint, grease stains or residues such as rubber or plastic. They will also deep clean the floor to ensure it is dust-free and there is nothing that can keep epoxy from adhering to the surface. We also use a diamond grinder that will expose the pores in yor concrete, which will allow the epoxy to adhere to the surface.
Step 3 - Application Of Base Layers
The following steps involve the application of several layers that form the base for the epoxy. The first layer includes the application of the proper moisture barrier to keep epoxy from peeling or degrading due to moisture. This is followed by the base which is basically a couple of layers that you have picked.
Step 4 - Epoxy Application
Complete Concrete Coating will mix the clear resin (part A), hardener (part B) and the additional metallic pigment to create the primary component of the flooring. Metallic colors are not manually mixed, they swirl due to the self leveling nature of the product. Gravity takes it where it wants as it cures. This is why you can never have two floors exactly alike.
Step 5 - Topcoat Application (Optional)
The application of a topcoat is the last step of the process. The topcoat protects the epoxy from peeling and scratches and increases the life of the flooring.
