Pool Deck Coatings in Centerville, UT

Pool Deck Coatings · Centerville, UT

A pool deck that stays cooler and grips wet feet

A pool deck coating is a finished surface we apply over the concrete around your pool. It grips better when it is wet, so wet feet stay put. It runs cooler than bare gray concrete under the Utah summer sun. It also seals the slab, so pool water, splash out and pool chemicals stop soaking in. The coating hides spalling, pitting, stains and the chalky look an old deck picks up. Most decks do not need to be torn out and poured again. We repair what is broken, prep the surface, then build the finish on the slab you already have.

Complete Concrete Coatings has worked on Utah concrete since 2005. We are a family owned shop at 452 N 1100 W in Centerville, licensed and insured. Paul answers the phone during the week. Homeowners call us, and so do community pools and hot tub owners who want a safer surround. Our Google page holds a 4.8 rating across 77 reviews. One is from Ruslan Arutyunov: "Great people to work with, they were always on time, very professional and did an amazing job on my pool deck!" If the slab needs crack and spall repair first, we do that part too. Ask for a free estimate and we will come look at the deck.

Pool deck coating finishes and slip resistance

Knockdown texture is the usual choice on a pool deck. We spray the coating on, then knock the high points down with a trowel. That leaves a soft peak pattern that grips wet feet without scraping them. You pick the base color, and we can run a border in a second color around the water. Steps, the coping edge and a hot tub surround can carry the same finish. Lighter colors reflect more sun, so the deck runs cooler than the bare gray slab under it. Darker colors hide dirt better. Colors get picked at the estimate, before we order material.

Slip resistance comes from the texture itself, so it lasts as long as the coating. Bare troweled concrete turns slick the moment it gets splashed. A textured pool deck coating gives the foot something to hold onto. Heat matters just as much in July. A cool deck coating will not feel like grass. It does take the sting out of a slab that has baked all afternoon. The coating also puts a sealed skin over the concrete. Pool water, chlorine and sunscreen sit on top instead of soaking into the pores. Upkeep stays light after that. Rinse the deck with a hose and sweep it, and wipe spills with a mild cleaner.

Prep work and the short Utah pool season

Every pool deck coating starts with prep, and prep is most of the job. We pressure wash the deck first to pull off dirt, algae and old sealer. Then we open the surface with a diamond grinder or a sandblaster so the new coating can bite. Cracks get chased out and filled. Spalled and pitted spots get patched flat. We detail the coping edge, the step nosings and the line where the deck meets the water. Those edges are where a bad coating job shows first. This is the same prep we use for patio and driveway resurfacing. Skip it and the coating peels.

Utah gives you a short swim season, so timing matters. We coat pool decks from spring through fall, when the deck dries and the coating cures in warm air. Booking in April or May gets the deck done before you open the pool. Fall work fits well after you winterize the pool. The deck gets sealed before the first freeze. Winter is hard on a wet deck. Water soaks into every crack and pore, freezes overnight, then pushes the concrete apart. That freeze thaw cycle is what turns a hairline crack into spalling by March. Keep de-icing salt off the deck, since salt makes it worse.

What does a pool deck coating cost in Utah?

Price comes down to the deck itself. Square footage is the biggest driver. A deck that wraps a large pool with a spa costs more than a simple rectangle. Condition is next. A slab with heavy spalling or old peeling paint needs more repair and more grinding. Sandblast prep costs more than a grind. The finish matters too. A single color runs less than a border or a stencil pattern. Coping and step detail add hand work, and hand work adds hours. Access counts as well, since a backyard with a narrow gate takes longer to load in and clean up.

The only way to price a pool deck is to look at it. We measure the deck, check the slab for cracks and spalling, then put the number in writing. Estimates are free. If the slab is in rough shape, we will say so before we quote a coating. Photos help, but we still want eyes on the deck before we price it. We cover the Wasatch Front from our Centerville shop. We coat pool decks in Bountiful, Farmington, Kaysville, Layton, Ogden and Salt Lake City. Call (801) 347-4518 Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm, and Paul will get you on the schedule.

FAQ

Pool Deck Coatings Questions, Answered

Common questions about pool deck coatings across the Wasatch Front. Don't see yours? Give us a call and ask.

Call (801) 347-4518

Will a pool deck coating keep the deck from getting slippery?
The knockdown texture is what gives you grip. It leaves thousands of small peaks that wet feet can hold onto. That grips far better than smooth troweled concrete. No coating is slip proof, and running on a wet deck is still a bad idea. Grip stays in the surface for the life of the coating.
Can you coat over cracks in my pool deck?
We repair and coat over surface cracks, spalling and pop outs every week. Structural cracks are different. If the slab has shifted, settled or broken through, a coating will crack again along the same line. A deck that holds standing water needs the drainage fixed first. We will tell you which kind you have at the estimate.
How long does a pool deck coating take?
It depends on the size of the deck and how much repair the slab needs. The work runs in stages. Prep and repair come first. Then the base and texture, then color and the sealer top coat. Each stage cures before the next one goes on. We give you the schedule before we start.
Is a pool deck coating waterproof?
Pool deck coatings are water resistant, not waterproof. They shed splash out and keep pool water from soaking into the slab. A raised deck or balcony with living space under it needs a waterproof deck coating system with a rubberized membrane. We install those too.
What is the warranty on a pool deck coating?
We pass on the manufacturer's warranty and apply every product to the manufacturer's specifications. Coverage comes from the product maker, and not all damage is covered by manufacturers. Ground movement, drainage problems and abuse fall outside it. We will show you the warranty that comes with the system you pick.

Why Choose Complete Concrete Coatings

Why Wasatch Front Property Owners Call Us

Coating Concrete Since 2005

The company started in 2005 and is still family owned and run. The crews have ground, repaired and coated Utah garages, decks and driveways for over 20 years. That is a lot of freeze-thaw winters and salted slabs.

Prep First, Every Time

Coatings fail at the prep, so we diamond grind or sandblast every slab, fix the cracks and spalling, and test for moisture before any color goes down. Every product goes on to the manufacturer's specifications.

Repair Instead of Replace

A worn porch, a salt-damaged driveway or a stained garage floor rarely needs a tear-out. We repair the surface and coat, resurface or seal it. You keep the slab and spend the money on the surface you see.

Centerville Is Home

Our shop sits at 452 N 1100 W in Centerville, so Davis County, Salt Lake City and Ogden are short drives. Call and you get Paul at the office, not a call center. Estimates are free and happen at the property.
